Hello World!
Today I have made an amazing discovery. No, not a new species of tortoise or life on Mars, but a discovery of faith. As I sat in my over sized moon chair with my Bible open to Deuteronomy, I was a bit puzzled about what God could possibly be saying to me in this chapter of how The Lord wanted the Israelites to live when they arrived into their promised land. Until I read the last little part about eating blood (which is what the Lord didn’t want them to do). The verse said:
23 Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for the blood is the life; you may not eat the life with the meat.24 You shall not eat it; you shall pour it on the earth like water.
– Deuteronomy 12:23-24 NKJV
What really struck me is that they were commanded not to eat the blood, because that was the “life.” Have you ever had an issue in your life that really sucks your life out? Like it just drank your blood. I know it sound like I’m talking strange vampire talk here, but this is serious. Have you ever had something that truly sucked your spiritual life dry? I have a few ideas for myself. Movies used to suck me dry. I would get so into them and feel dry; completely forgetting about My Father who really wanted my attention.
So how do I overcome my dry life? Like in real life, put lotion on it. I don’t mean real lotion, but spiritual lotion. Pray, read your Bible, journal, read a good book, watch a good movie, eat some good food, and find joy in all the blessings the Father blessed you with. My family really helps me overcome every problem I have ever had.
Being in the world we live in, everything we dwell on can suck us dry. Burdens we carry can suck us dry. Past events that haunt us can suck us dry. It reminds me of Frodo in the Lord of the Rings. He has The Ring to carry and destroy, but all along the way he is burdened and pursued by the Dark Lord’s servants. But, he had lotion just like we do. Sam was a loyal friend who was with him to the end (I won’t say how it ends in case you haven’t read the book 🙂 ) and was there for him even when Frodo ignored him – on account of Gollum.
We all have times when we need our family and friends to moisturize our dry life – even when we don’t acknowledge them and ignore them to the point of tears.
Christ came to set us free and when we fall into a dark hole and stay in our dryness, we really just ignore what Christ did for us! So, we say,”I’m going to get up and put some lotion on! I know that I am forgiven for whatever I let in that suck me dry.” Get up, seize your day, and live in the joy of the Lord. He wants you to have joy – that’s why he came for us. So we could live with Him forever and have abundant joy!
I hope you feel encouraged and live with amazing joy!
So long,
Emily 🙂
