Well, hello there, my lovely friends!
I have returned to the interwebz!

It’s been too long since I used the intimidating graphics interchange format (.gif) images of my precious, psychopathic boi. 🙂
I sure missed writing for you all, but this month flew by so rapidly, and I needed the time off. Thank you all for bearing with me and for patiently waiting thirty-one days for me to get my bearings.
Summer school is hard. 🙂
Needless to say, this month was much needed. I learned quite a lot about my routine, time management, carpe diem, and the absolute joy that is waking up at 5:30 a.m. Not because I have to, but because I want to…I’ve become a morning person, and I’m not sure what’s happened to me.

BUT!
Since the month of July began, numerous occurrences have…occurred.
Spoiler alert, this post won’t be anything necessarily related to what I usually post, but as my first time back in an entire month, I thought the most appropriate thing to write about was what I have been up to.
I can’t just disappear and not tell you what I did. That’s blogger heresy.
So, without further ado:
- I have come alongside my mom through some difficult health problems, to which we are still prayerfully seeking medical advice and healing for her. If you all could be praying for her, I would be eternally grateful. While I won’t go into much detail, I just want to say thank you to my family and Close Friends™ who have been there to pray for and support us through this tough time.

- I have turned myself into a rabbit-food-munching vegan…which has been interesting and incredibly insightful, to say the least. I never thought I’d be saying this, but I would actually like to remain this way. As in, forever. I’ve no idea what the future holds, but yeah—I like being a bunny.
- I have never been more obsessed with chess than I am currently. It has become more than a hobby, and I’m getting way better than I ever was. I’m determined to checkmate my father before the year is up. I’ve been playing him since I was seven years old, and I’ve never beat him. #goals

- I finished the canonical part of Doctor Who (which doesn’t include series eleven or twelve) and cried over my grumpy boi Twelve. Twelve is the best Doctor. I didn’t think I was going to like him, but…dudes…I LOVE HIM. He’s one helluva bird. If you know, you know.

- I finished Schindler’s List (which is going to be the subject of an August blog post).
- I celebrated my little brother’s fifth birthday.
- I floated down a river in a tube.
- I celebrated the one-year anniversary of Oxford Scholastica with those international friends of mine from this previous post, which was a grand old time on Zoom.

- I finished putting together my Missy cosplay, and I’m hoping to take photos once the weather becomes a bit more tolerable for Victorian dress. Most likely the end of this month or next month. September can still be pretty toasty!
- I made some Adlock photo edits and am possibly beginning work on a Adlock Medieval Alternate Universe FanFiction in which Sherlock and Irene are a medieval king and queen. Didn’t mean for that to rhyme!

- I learned the importance of getting up early (as in, before the sun early) and not letting my phone take advantage of my time.
- I figured out that I want to get certified to teach English abroad after I finish my B.S.
- I’ve learned more about the writing process and have learned how to carve out time each day to write at least SOMETHING. Because it is hard, my friends. So hard. Especially with school being what it is.
So, there it is—the indefinite list of things that happened in July 2020. I have missed this blog, but I’m glad to be back and sharing it with you all. It was honestly so nice not to have the extra stress of writing a post, and I’m thankful I was able to have some time to recoup. BUT I’M READY TO RESUME THE DISCUSSIONS.
School is still in session (and will be for me until mid-December), but I’ve learned how to make time for it and how to execute it…it puts me up in a corner and yells at me sometimes, despite my many excuses and pleas for mercy.

Haha, I love this boi. 😂
Anyway, today is the beginning of a new week, a new month (well, the first week of the new month), and a new era for me. I’m living a relatively new life as a vegan, a morning person, and as someone who Responsibly Accounts For Her Time™, and I am ready to take on the second half of the year.
I know we’re technically past the first half, but it feels like the first half lasted longer than six months.
#coronavirus
SO, what kind of content do I have in store for August?
Well, here’s what we’re looking at, friends:
- Oskar Schindler, morality/psychoanalysis, Keneally’s historical account of Schindler’s heroism and the Spielberg masterpiece
- The woes of fiction writers
- Doctor Who! Mainly my thoughts on the Twelfth Doctor, Clara Oswald, and the transition from a male to a female Doctor
- Wuthering Heights! Maribeth and I are currently reading this book at the same time (we are on chapter four today), and I definitely want to write a review on it once I finish. Maybe that’ll come in September. Wuthering Heights is a HOT MESS, dudes.

- BACH and his Mass in B minor! Also classical composers—more classical composers.
- Also maybe a hot take on philosophy…I always really enjoy writing about philosophy. Especially about how David Hume and Immanuel Kant broke The Law of Non-Contradiction with their oh-so-subtle “we can’t know anything about the natural world or truth” skeptic argument—to which I shall ask, “Um, how do you know that it’s true that we can’t know anything?” And now all of Western society is built on their flawed reasoning, and it breaks my soul.
Well, friends, that is what’s going on here this month! I hope you’re excited—I am getting really excited to plunge in. That was a lot of content I just listed, so most likely that’ll trickle into September.
And October.
Am I organized? Yes.
Does this mean I know exactly what I’m doing for the month of August?

Sorry.
BUT! I promise it will be good.
So, thank you, friends, for welcoming me back! I’m so excited to have rejoined my little place on the internet, and let’s take August by the horns, shall we?
I love you all, and thank you for your immense patience.
Yours,
Emily Betts 🙂
Welcome back! Your Zoom meeting looks fun (and your post about meeting those friends is probably my favorite of yours ever). I’m praying for your mom!
Thank you for your kind welcome back! That zoom meeting was so fun—I’m so glad you enjoyed my Oxford post, too! It was one of the funnest I’ve ever written, I think! And thank you so much for your prayers for my mom…she is healing, slowly but surely!
Emily! Welcome back! I’m glad that you were able to have a refreshing hiatus and get some things done. And reconnecting with Oxford friends! How fun!
I’m so sorry that you and your family are going through some choppy waters with health issues. Praying for you all. ❤
Thank you so much for your comment and prayers for my family, Amelie. I’ve missed you, and it’s so good to be back! 🙂
